Filed Under (Worship Recap) by Jay on 10-28-2008

I’m posting our worship recap today as a part of the “Sunday Setlists” blog carnival hosted at FredMcKinnon.Com, though this post will be for our Tuesday night young adult service at St. Simons Community Church.

  1. My Savior Lives - Desperation Band.  Nuf said.
  2. Cannons - This song is really growing on me.  I hope and pray for Wickham to have a long fruitful career.
  3. Healer - I played the ebow parts myself while singing.  I won’t do that again.  I felt like I was playing drunk trying to do both.  My right hand wouldn’t move the ebow where I wanted it to.  Next time I play it, I”ll use a loop.
  4. The Stand - time and time again I hear this song referred to as “the money song” and I had hoped for a good reception with our Elevate crowd, but I’m afraid that the song wasn’t familiar enough to everybody to justify the 16 bars of ’selah’ we ran between it and the Hallelujah chorus at the end.  Plus, I’ve had a hard time moving from my upbringing in a traditional United Methodist church, my training as a worship leader in a charismatic church, and now my service in a reserved non-denominational environment.  I’m honestly not a good cheerleader and feel a bit freaked out when the congregation doesn’t respond and engage in the way that I would expect.

I’m restless and want to know whether folks stand like trees and keep their arms crossed because I’m standing in the way of their worship or if it has nothing to do with me.  Please tell me that I’m not alone here.

I’m learning to sail the 1974 20 foot O’Day boat that my wife and I purchased from my cousin.  I was encouraged to read this book by a friend who works at West Marine.  The author, Capt. Joshua Slocum, was the first person known to have circumnavigated the globe by himself.  At sea between April 24th, 1895 and June 27th, 1898, the book details Slocum’s adventures in making a journey that in most ways appears identical to those that attempt the feat today.

Have you heard of Zac Sunderland, the 16 year old that left California in June with hopes of the being the youngest person to sail around the world alone?  His blog is updated regular and is well worth a read.  He demonstrates what I would say is the biggest difference between Slocum’s trip and more recent attempts: he can maintain contact with his friends and family and not have as many as 4 months between human contact.  That would drive me nuts.

Do you have any experience or interest in sailing?

Fan of the Daily Show?  Fan of flip charts?  Demetri Martin is a comedian from the Stephen Wright school of deadpan delivery.  Enjoy:

Fellowship Church, home of Ed Young, has recently recorded a cd/dvd entitled Closer to the Start.  Somebody on the production team appears to be a big fan of Blue Man Group or Cirque du Soleil, as evidenced by this video for the last song, New Creation:

Closer to the Start - New Creation from Fellowship Church on Vimeo.

I just hope that the audience was sitting with their hands in their laps because they were out of steam after worshiping for an hour. This song moves me so much that I wouldn’t be able to just sit there and watch.

This singer can flat out wail, friends.  The lead guitar lines remind me of Noel Gallagher playing with Oasis.  This band is tight.

Ever used live artists, body or otherwise, in the middle of your worship set?

Funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time. Many thanks to my friend Summer. This is the kind of thing that comes out of our small group discussions. File this under “Full Body Laughter.”
